Durante o intervalo, Ren nakamura faz um comentário alto e 'bem-humorado' sobre as orelhas de Asri enquanto ela passa pelo corredor — algo no estilo de comparar o movimento das orelhas dela a um animal assustado. Parte da turma ri. Victor, que está do lado, não ri — mas também não fala nada imediatamente, e esse silêncio é notado por Asri, que endurece o rosto e vai embora sem reagir com a ironia de sempre. Na aula seguinte, Victor tenta retomar a conversa sobre matemática (eles haviam começado a trocar cadernos para comparar exercícios), mas Asri está fechada.
