Scene: Rin sits on the counter like a bored documentary host, filming Kaito as he crouches and examines the store floor for imaginary footprints. Visible bubble text, in reading order: Rin: "Night three of the yen." Story function: Time and obsession compress into a joke; Rin's livestream-like commentary makes Kaito's spiral public.

Image description

Rin narrates into her phone while Kaito searches the floor for clues, turning the yen incident into mock true-crime content.

About this chapter

A customer overpays by one yen and leaves before Kaito can return it. Unable to let the imbalance go, Kaito spirals across the whole shift trying to resolve a single yen coin, while Rin documents his descent like a true-crime narrator. When the customer returns at dawn for something that actually matters, Kaito must choose between being correct and being kind.
