A silent beat. Momo freezes mid-step beneath the window, magnifying glass raised high in both hands, eyes wide. The last of the light is only a thin golden glow clinging to the windowsill now; the floor below has fallen into cool dusk. No one speaks.

A silent, tense beat. Momo is frozen mid-tiptoe just beneath the square window, magnifying glass raised high in both cuffed hands, huge amber eyes wide. The sunbeam is now only a thin golden sliver glowing along the windowsill; the floor below is dim and dusky. No dialogue.
About this chapter
Late afternoon at the Tiny Case Agency, the warm patch of sunlight on the floor is shrinking — and Momo is certain a light-thief is dragging the daylight out the window inch by inch. She measures the theft, stalks the retreating gold across the room, clears a sleeping Biscuit, and finally corners the last sliver on the windowsill and pounces — just as it winks out at dusk. Ganta tells her on page five that the sun is going down. She hushes him and chases it anyway. Unable to admit the sun simply set, Momo declares the thief escaped with the daylight and vows the agency will recover every drop tomorrow, then falls asleep in the blue dusk. Ganta delivers the verdict once she is out: the sun set — it comes back on its own.
