Down at floor level, Momo leans in and studies the sleeping Biscuit through her magnifying glass. The cat doesn't stir. Only a thin sliver of golden light remains near the box; the rest of the floor has gone to soft shadow. MOMO: 'Too slow to be the thief. Cleared.'

Low floor-level view of Momo leaning in to peer through her big magnifying glass at Biscuit, the round white cat, fast asleep in her open cardboard box. A thin sliver of golden light lies on the floor near the box; the rest of the floor is in soft shadow.
About this chapter
Late afternoon at the Tiny Case Agency, the warm patch of sunlight on the floor is shrinking — and Momo is certain a light-thief is dragging the daylight out the window inch by inch. She measures the theft, stalks the retreating gold across the room, clears a sleeping Biscuit, and finally corners the last sliver on the windowsill and pounces — just as it winks out at dusk. Ganta tells her on page five that the sun is going down. She hushes him and chases it anyway. Unable to admit the sun simply set, Momo declares the thief escaped with the daylight and vows the agency will recover every drop tomorrow, then falls asleep in the blue dusk. Ganta delivers the verdict once she is out: the sun set — it comes back on its own.
