NEBRASKA / 03. Jack: “Do you have a heavy-duty stall?” Clerk: “That one has been temperamental.” SFX: KRAK! SPLASH! Sign: REPAIR IN PROGRESS. Jack: “Take this as atonement.”

At a truck stop, Jack asks for a heavy-duty stall. The restroom floods as he plunges furiously and a wall pipe bursts; his cylindrical cart tilts in the water. At the counter he offers the stunned clerk exactly two yellow gold bricks.

Jack sets out in his pea-green 1974 Buick Apollo. From Illinois to Idaho, he warns each stop, makes repairs where he can and leaves a repair card. A museum post starts connecting the dots while Jack keeps driving.
