Beneath an archway, the brigands stand beside a sign pointing to Tower Market and River Docks. Leader: “Which way to Tower Market?” Another: “By the gods, doesn't anyone know how to read?” A young man in a sleeveless tunic and green sash watches from beside a cart. He murmurs, “Asha, show us the way.” Looking at the brigands, he thinks: “Road-wolves… with purses heavier than their skulls.”

About this chapter
Street Smarts opens with four brigands robbing a caravan outside the Imperial City. They head into the crowded festival streets with their loot, where an encounter with a streetwise local draws them into a city that isn’t quite as easy to navigate as they expect.
