Five panels. A wide night shot of an empty convenience store with rain on the windows, then Kaito mopping and naming the song playing overhead while Rin, bored behind the register, refuses to be impressed.
Six panels. Kaito freezes mid-restock with one finger raised, listening to the ceiling speaker, and realises the loop has skipped a track. Rin does not care.
Six panels. Kaito leans across the counter describing the missing song in obsessive detail while Rin picks his description apart.

The store's 47-minute music loop has run unchanged for six years, and Kaito can name every track by its first note. Tonight, at 3:14 A.M., track seven — sixty-eight seconds of whistling, a xylophone, and a woman saying 'have a nice day' — simply does not play. The loop goes six, then eight. Kaito spends the entire shift trying to prove a song he has heard eleven thousand times ever existed: he waits out four full cycles, interrogates the tracksuit regular, hears track seven playing as head office's hold music, and is told it was pulled from every store back in April. Rin films all of it. At dawn track seven returns — except it isn't whistling, it's Kaito's own humming, looped, because Rin has secretly been the store's music since the real player died in April, and tonight she cut the whistle out because it was ruining her audio. He gets nothing. She gets four hundred thousand listeners.

Panel 1: A wide establishing shot of the store at 2:40 in the morning, seen from the back of the snack aisle toward the register. Rain streaks the front windows and the street beyond is empty. Fluorescent tubes buzz over the shelves; a small round white speaker sits in the ceiling above the register. Kaito is a small figure in the middle aisle, mopping. Panel 2: Kaito mid-mop, chin lifted, eyes flicking up toward the ceiling speaker. KAITO: Track four. Two minutes, eleven seconds. Panel 3: Rin slouches behind the register in her oversized hoodie and store apron, one earbud in, phone up, not looking at him. RIN: You do this every night. Panel 4: Close on Kaito, the mop handle resting against his shoulder, entirely serious. KAITO: Forty-seven minute loop. Eleven tracks. KAITO: Same one since the day I started. Six years. Panel 5: Across the counter, Rin raises her phone to film him. Kaito stands very straight, holding the mop upright like a spear. KAITO: I could hum the entire thing. RIN: I would rather you didn't.

Panel 1: Kaito crouches at the hot-food shelf restocking, a plain rice ball in each hand, absorbed in the task. Panel 2: A silent beat panel. Kaito is frozen absolutely still mid-reach, one index finger raised, head tilted up and sideways toward the ceiling speaker, eyes wide, a single drop of sweat at his temple. Panel 3: He lowers his arm slowly, still staring upward, mouth a flat line, the rice ball forgotten in his hand. KAITO: It skipped. Panel 4: Rin behind the counter, phone up, one earbud in, not looking at him at all. RIN: What did. Panel 5: Kaito turns toward her fast, deadly serious, still holding the rice ball up like evidence. KAITO: Track seven. It went six. Then eight. KAITO: Seven did not play. Panel 6: Extreme close-up of Rin's half-lidded eyes, completely unmoved, with Kaito's voice coming in from off-panel. RIN: Cool. KAITO: It has played at three fourteen every night for six years.

Panel 1: Kaito leans both palms on the counter, uncomfortably close to Rin, intense and urgent. KAITO: It's the one with the whistling. Panel 2: Rin, blank-faced, one earbud in, lowers her phone an inch. RIN: The what. Panel 3: Kaito raises both hands and conducts an invisible song with his eyes shut. KAITO: Sixty-eight seconds. Whistling, then a xylophone, then a woman says 'have a nice day'. Panel 4: Rin, flat and deadpan, chin propped on one hand. RIN: That's three songs. Panel 5: Kaito brings one palm down gently on the counter, eyes wide, defending his life's work. KAITO: It is ONE song. I mop to it. Panel 6: Rin lowers her phone slightly, the tiniest smirk, Kaito answering from off-panel. RIN: You mop to a song. KAITO: I mop ON it. It is when the mopping happens.
