Refusing to be beaten, Momo squares up in the blue dusk, one fist over her heart, magnifying glass raised like a banner — though her eyes are already sliding shut with sleep. MOMO: 'The thief fled with the daylight. We recover every drop tomorrow.'

Momo plants her feet and lifts her chin proudly, one cuffed fist over her heart and the magnifying glass raised high like a banner, in the dim blue dusk room — though her big amber eyes are already drooping sleepily. No golden light remains.
About this chapter
Late afternoon at the Tiny Case Agency, the warm patch of sunlight on the floor is shrinking — and Momo is certain a light-thief is dragging the daylight out the window inch by inch. She measures the theft, stalks the retreating gold across the room, clears a sleeping Biscuit, and finally corners the last sliver on the windowsill and pounces — just as it winks out at dusk. Ganta tells her on page five that the sun is going down. She hushes him and chases it anyway. Unable to admit the sun simply set, Momo declares the thief escaped with the daylight and vows the agency will recover every drop tomorrow, then falls asleep in the blue dusk. Ganta delivers the verdict once she is out: the sun set — it comes back on its own.
