Seen from above, the water has cooked off and a lacy golden crust has spread between the circle of gyoza. Caption: "STEP 6. When the water is almost gone, take the lid off." A spoon drizzles sesame oil around the edge of the pan. Caption: "Drizzle 1 tsp sesame oil around the edge. Fry 1 to 2 minutes more, until the lace is golden and crisp." Akane holds a plate over the pan, ready to flip it, as Rina leans on the counter and watches. Caption: "Loosen with a spatula, put a plate on top and flip it over in one move." With the lid off, a golden lace crust forms between the gyoza, sesame oil is drizzled around the edge, Akane flips the pan onto a plate, and Rina gazes with starry eyes at the crisp, lace-winged gyoza.
About this chapter
Akane makes pan-fried gyoza with a crispy lace wing from scratch, but this time she is not alone: her rascal younger sister Rina drops in, steals tastes, folds a lumpy "gyoza with character" and lifts the lid at the worst moment. Captions walk the reader through every amount, fold and heat setting, ending with both sisters at the little table, the second chair finally taken.
