Panel 1: Close on Darcy glancing over at Lizzie for exactly one second — a cold, flat assessment with no warmth at all. Panel 2: Close on Darcy already turning away as he speaks, dismissive, not looking back. Darcy: "She's tolerable." Panel 3: Darcy in profile, walking off a step, the line delivered flatly over his shoulder. Darcy: "Not handsome enough to tempt me." Panel 4: Close on Lizzie, having heard every word — a single frozen beat of her face registering it. Not wounded; something sharper. Panel 5: Tight close on Lizzie's eyes, her eyebrow going up, the insult converting into ammunition. Panel 6: Lizzie turns away entirely composed, chin up, a smirk arriving. Unbothered.
Descrição da imagem
Darcy glances at Lizzie for a single cold second and dismisses her as merely tolerable, not handsome enough to tempt him. Lizzie, standing close enough to hear every word, takes it in — and her expression hardens into something sharper than hurt.
Sobre este capítulo
The assembly party — the night everything starts. Bingley arrives and is instantly adored; Darcy is admired for about half an hour before the whole town decides he is insufferable. Bingley and Jane find each other immediately. When Bingley urges his friend to dance with Lizzie, Darcy calls her tolerable — not handsome enough to tempt him — and Lizzie is close enough to hear every word. She turns it into a joke and tells it all night.
