Six panels establishing the town: an aerial of an affluent neighborhood at golden hour, a sleek glass mansion on a distant hill, a moving truck arriving at its gate, the mansion's cold empty facade, the town at dusk with lights coming on, and finally a warm lived-in house with a bike on the porch.
Mr. Bennet sits calmly in his armchair with a tablet and tea in the cozy Bennet living room until Mrs. Bennet bursts in clutching her phone with news about Netherfield being rented. He does not look up.
Mrs. Bennet leans in with her gossip while Mr. Bennet refuses to take the bait, reading on in silence. Her patience finally cracks and she demands he ask who has taken the house — at which point he looks up with a dry smile.

Netherfield, the cool glass mansion on the hill, has finally been rented — and Mrs. Bennet has already decided one of her five daughters will marry whoever moved in. She corners her unbothered husband to demand he go make friends with the new arrival: a young, single, very rich man named Bingley. Mr. Bennet needles her with dry affection, offers to put in a good word for Lizzie, and gives his verdict that Lizzie has a bit more going on than her sisters. The chapter ends by revealing the household the whole scheme is about — the five Bennet daughters — as Mrs. Bennet announces the house has a new project.

Panel 1: A large aerial view of an affluent town at golden hour — leafy streets, handsome houses, warm amber tones. Caption: "Everybody knows the rule." Panel 2: A sleek modern glass mansion sits on a distant hill, cool-toned and conspicuously larger than everything around it, catching the last light. Caption: "A single man with serious money must be looking for a wife." Panel 3: The mansion's gate, with a small moving truck just visible — the first sign of life at the empty house. Panel 4: Closer detail of the glass mansion's clean, cold facade, empty and waiting under steel-blue light. Caption: "Whether he knows it yet or not." Panel 5: A quiet wide shot of the town at dusk, lights coming on in the windows. Caption: "And the neighbors always decide first." Panel 6: The view pushes in toward one warm, lived-in house — cozier and less polished than its neighbors, a bike on the porch, potted plants, a slightly crooked wreath.

Panel 3: The door bursts open as Mrs. Bennet sweeps in, phone clutched to her chest, practically vibrating with news. Panel 4: Close on Mrs. Bennet, eyes wide and thrilled, leaning in over the arm of his chair. Mrs. Bennet: "Did you hear? Netherfield's finally rented!" Panel 5: A beat — Mr. Bennet reads on without looking up while Mrs. Bennet waits, beaming, on the balls of her feet. Silence. Panel 6: Mr. Bennet, mild and unbothered, still not looking up from the tablet. Mr. Bennet: "I did not."

Panel 1: Close on Mrs. Bennet leaning in, delighted, name-dropping her source with a knowing tilt of the head. Mrs. Bennet: "Well it is. Mrs. Long told me everything." Panel 2: Two-shot — Mr. Bennet turns another page on the tablet and says nothing. Mrs. Bennet's smile holds, waiting for him to bite. Panel 3: A beat, close on Mr. Bennet's face, mild and unreadable, eyes on the screen. He will not ask. Panel 4: Close on Mrs. Bennet, the smile straining now, still waiting, nothing coming back. Panel 5: Close on Mrs. Bennet cracking, impatient, the excitement curdling into exasperation. Mrs. Bennet: "Don't you want to know who's taken it?" Panel 6: Close on Mr. Bennet with a faint dry half-smile, glancing up over his glasses at last, having won the round. Mr. Bennet: "You want to tell me. I've no objection to hearing it."
