In a warm, sunlit family kitchen, Jane Bennet sits at a wooden table with both hands around a mug while her sister Lizzie leans in the doorway with folded arms, watching her sceptically.
Lydia bursts into the kitchen shouting news with Kitty crowding the doorway behind her; below, a close-up of Jane's face with her mug frozen halfway to her mouth.
Three panels in a warm living room: Mrs. Bennet declares victory with her hands clasped, Mr. Bennet answers drily from his armchair, and Jane stands by the window insisting it has nothing to do with her while Lizzie watches.

Full-page panel. Golden morning light fills the lived-in Bennet kitchen — open shelves of crockery and jars, plants on the sill, a low dome pendant lamp over the wooden table. JANE BENNET, 25, honey-blonde hair falling past her shoulders, cream blouse under a soft-pink cardigan, sits at the table with both hands wrapped around a mug, perfectly composed. In the doorway behind her, LIZZIE BENNET, 23, dark-brown wavy hair clipped half-up, freckles across her nose, open olive-green utility jacket and jeans, leans against the frame with her arms folded and one eyebrow raised. JANE: 'I'm fine, Lizzie. He's a closed tab.' LIZZIE: 'Mm.'

Panel 1: LYDIA BENNET, 17, long dark-brown hair, bright pink top and dark skirt, comes crashing through the kitchen doorway mid-stride, eyes huge with excitement. KITTY BENNET, 19, medium-brown hair and a lilac top, crowds in behind her with one hand on the doorframe. LYDIA: 'The lights are on at Netherfield!' Panel 2: Tight close-up of JANE BENNET. Her mug has stopped halfway to her mouth. Her large blue eyes are very still and her careful composure is cracking at the edges. KITTY (off-panel): 'He's back!'

Page 3

Panel 1: MRS. BENNET, 52, grey-streaked dark hair, floral blouse and a beaded necklace, stands in the cluttered living room in full triumph, hands clasped in front of her chest, eyes shining. MRS. BENNET: 'He has come back for Jane. I always said so.' Panel 2: MR. BENNET, 58, grey hair receding at the temples, reading glasses pushed up on his forehead, brown cardigan over a checked shirt, sits deep in his green armchair with a tablet on his knee, one eyebrow raised. MR. BENNET: 'He has come back for a house he pays rent on.' Panel 3: JANE BENNET stands very straight by the window in the warm light, wearing her polite smile, one hand quietly steadying the other. Behind her LIZZIE watches with her arms folded, entirely unconvinced. JANE: 'It's really nothing to do with me.'
