Three panels, read right to left. Panel 1: the last couple of customers drift toward the sliding doors, backs turned. Panel 2: Kaito watches them go, cautious hope dawning on his tired face. Panel 3: the store is empty and silent under soft rain; Kaito stands very still, almost afraid to believe it. CUSTOMER: Well. G'night. KAITO: Wait. That's... the last one? KAITO: It's empty. It's actually empty.

关于本章

3 A.M., rain on the dead-hours store. Kaito works the night shift for exactly one thing: the sacred, impossible quiet of the dead hours — the single stretch when nobody comes and the store is finally his. Tonight, for no reason anyone can name, the dead hours refuse to die. A nonstop parade of 3 A.M. oddballs floods the store — a drunk salaryman, a wired all-nighter student, the tracksuit regular with his clear bag of empty cans, a lost taxi driver, a whole shift's worth of humanity — each one denying Kaito the one thing he craves: ten seconds of perfect emptiness. Every time the store finally clears and Kaito closes his eyes for the calm, hands flat on the counter with the faintest serene almost-smile, the sliding doors ding and it is snatched away — the same deflating beat, again and again. He speeds customers through, spirals about where they can possibly all be coming from at this hour, and finally confesses to Rin that the quiet is the only part of the night that ever feels like his. She has one flicker of near-sincerity before raising her phone again, livestreaming the whole thing as 'the busiest quiet hour ever.' Near dawn the crowd thins for real and, at last, the store goes truly silent and empty exactly as he dreamed — but Kaito, wrung out by the six-hour rush, has slumped asleep on the counter and misses the very quiet he guarded all night, the running beat inverted: eyes closed for real, but gone. Rin quietly films the peaceful empty store and her sleeping straight-man; her silent 'the quietest hour' stream hits four hundred thousand viewers who tuned in to watch nothing happen. Kaito gets nothing — not even the silence. Dawn light fills the spotless store exactly as the night began, Rin's phone already raised, already posting — and the sliding doors ding one last time, just for us.
