Page 12. A close panel. Momo refuses to admit she was wrong: she lifts her chin with dignified, half-lidded eyes and hugs her oversized magnifying glass to her chest, pretending this was the plan all along. A closed ring of the pale dusty boot-prints encircles her boots on the floorboards, and Biscuit dozes in her box nearby. MOMO: 'Surrounded. I drove them off. Case closed.'

About this chapter

Momo spots a trail of pale dusty boot-prints on the clubroom floor and declares that an intruder is circling the Tiny Case Agency. She follows the tracks around the room, magnifying glass out — and each lap she is certain there are MORE of them, a whole gang closing the ring. Ganta tells her on page five that they are her own boots. She hushes him and keeps circling, adding fresh prints with every step, until the trail loops right back to the two little boots on her own feet. Unable to admit she spent the afternoon chasing herself, Momo declares she surrounded the gang and drove them off, closes the case, and falls asleep inside the ring of prints. Ganta delivers the verdict once she is out: she walked in a circle.
