A vast flat expanse of reclaimed farmland at dawn, divided into long rectangles by straight drainage ditches beneath an enormous pale sky, with a single small figure standing beside a tripod-mounted surveying instrument in the middle distance.
A stocky farmer in a mud-coloured jacket holds a thermos and argues with Merel Vosberg across a flat field with a young willow tree, while she writes in her notebook without looking up.
A view over Merel's shoulder toward a distant striped surveying pole, then a circular telescope view showing crosshairs centred on empty grass where the pole should be, and Merel lifting her head in confusion.

Merel Vosberg measures a four-and-a-half-metre land dispute in a Dutch polder and sees the world refuse her instrument. The flat farmland becomes Orran, a vast mountain world where Adai, a blind route-singer, guides roads by listening rather than measuring. Merel tests notebooks, paces, cairns, and road mood before reaching Ninefold, where impossible geography suddenly becomes exact.

PAGE 2 Kuipers argues about the willow and the property line while Merel keeps taking notes beside the drainage ditch and surveying tripod. VISIBLE TEXT: You know that willow isn’t the willow. I do know that. It’s thirty-five years old. The description is from 1876. So where’s the line? I’ll tell you in about four hours. An opinion isn’t a boundary.

PAGE 3 Merel takes one last sightline toward the surveying pole. Through the instrument, the pole vanishes from where it should be, though she can still see it outside the scope. VISIBLE TEXT: Last shot. ... It’s right there.
