Panel 1: Low golden light on the wooden porch steps of the Bennet house, flowers and hanging baskets around them. CHARLES BINGLEY sits a step above JANE BENNET, turned toward her, earnest and nervous, hands loose on his knees. Jane sits with her hands in her lap, looking up at him. BINGLEY: 'I was told you didn't feel anything. I believed it.' Panel 2: Close two-shot in the amber light — Bingley's face open and undefended, Jane's beside it with her blue eyes filling and the polite mask finally down. BINGLEY: 'I should have just asked you myself.' JANE: 'Then ask me now.'
