Make money with your comics

Most comic income starts with readers. Publish your chapters free on Inkroost, open new ones to your supporters on Patreon, and sell the finished book where books are sold.

Four ways to earn from your comics

  1. Grow readers here first

Publish your first chapters free. Anyone can start reading without an account, readers follow the series, and following is what tells them a new chapter is out. Share the series link wherever you already post.

A supporter tier sells to people who already read you, so this is the step everything else stands on.

  2. Supporter-only chapters through Patreon

Connect your Patreon under Settings, Profile. Then set a chapter’s “Who can read it” to “Supporters only (Patreon)”. A reader verifies with their own Patreon account, and the chapter opens if they are an active paid supporter. A common pattern is free early chapters and supporter-only new releases.

Supporters pay you through Patreon, and Inkroost never handles that money: it only checks the membership. You need a published Patreon page with at least one paid tier.

    Patreon

Patreon allows AI-generated work within its guidelines, with different rules for all-audience and 18+ pages. Say when your work is AI-made.

  3. Sell the finished book somewhere else

When a chapter or a series is done, the export panel in your studio packages it as an ebook (EPUB), a PDF, a comic archive (CBZ), page images in a ZIP or a webtoon strip. Keeping the small Inkroost mark is free; every plan includes copies without it, and otherwise the form shows the price before you start.

These files have not been checked against any store’s submission rules, so treat them as a starting point and check each store’s guidelines before you upload.

    Amazon KDP

Kindle Create, Amazon’s own tool, can prepare comic eBooks. When you publish, KDP asks whether the book contains AI-generated images or text, even if you edited them afterwards; readers do not see your answer. Work you made yourself and only refined with AI tools does not need it.

    Draft2Digital

Accepts an EPUB of your own for ebook distribution, but not for print. It works best for text-led books, so for page-by-page comics check their current guidelines or publish to the stores directly.

    Comics Authority

An independent publisher of creator-owned comics. Its Creator Program is free to join, every submission is reviewed, and AI-assisted work is welcome when you disclose it and hold the rights to every element. The licence is non-exclusive, so you can keep selling elsewhere. On printed copies it keeps $1.00 a copy and pays you the rest of the eligible print revenue every quarter.

  4. Say when the art is AI-made

KDP, Patreon and Comics Authority all ask you to be clear about AI, and readers deserve the same. Say it in the store listing, on your Patreon page and in any submission form, and never present AI-drawn pages as hand-drawn. On Inkroost, a series is marked Hand-drawn, AI-assisted or Mixed, and readers see the mark.

Before you sell anywhere, make sure you hold the rights to every part of the book. If you draw, uploading your own pages to Inkroost is always free.

Questions people ask

Can I make money from AI-generated comics?

Yes, where the platform allows it and you say so. KDP asks you to declare AI-generated images, Comics Authority welcomes AI-assisted work you disclose, and Patreon allows AI-generated work within its guidelines. Rules change, so check each platform’s current terms before you publish.

Does Inkroost pay creators for views?

Inkroost does not pay creators for views. The money comes from readers: the ones who like your story enough to support it or buy it. So the order is readers first, then supporters, then the finished book. Nobody can promise how much that earns, and we will not either.

Does Inkroost take a cut of my Patreon income?

No. Supporters pay you through Patreon, and that payment is between them and Patreon. Inkroost only checks that a reader is an active supporter before it opens the chapter.

Can I sell my comic on Amazon KDP?

Export it from your studio, then prepare it with Kindle Create, which can make comic eBooks. Inkroost’s files have not been checked against KDP’s rules, so follow their current guidelines, and tell KDP if the book contains AI-generated images.

Do I keep the rights to what I publish here?

The terms say you keep ownership of what you upload, and publishing gives Inkroost only the licence it needs to store, show and process it. Nothing here is exclusive, so you can publish the same work elsewhere. For anything you sell, make sure you hold the rights to every part of it.

Do I need a Patreon account?

Only for supporter-only chapters, and it needs a published Patreon page with at least one paid tier. Publishing free chapters and exporting your book work without one.

Start with chapter one.

Publishing on Inkroost is free, and anyone can start reading without an account. Your first readers are the people a supporter tier is for.
