Kai discovers a cluster of aphids feeding on one of the garden plants and immediately feels the old urge to eliminate the problem. Before he intervenes, he notices ladybirds and larvae already hunting among the damaged leaves. He waits. Over the following days the aphids diminish, new growth appears, and the plant remains healthy even though a few blemished leaves and a few pests remain. Kai realizes that a healthy system is not one with zero problems. Sometimes the things that solve a problem need the problem to exist first. Resilience is not perfection; it is the ability to absorb a little damage and keep living.

The chapter opens with a wide view of Kai's compact garden. He walks slowly along the centered stepping-stone path between the dense flower beds, with the jasmine-covered fence and bench at the far end. In the second panel, Kai crouches beside the east bed and studies a plant closely. His relaxed expression shifts to mild concern as he notices curled, damaged leaves.

Kai crouches at the edge of the flower bed and gently turns over a mottled leaf between his fingers. The next panel moves into an extreme close-up: dozens of tiny aphids cluster along the leaf veins and damaged surface. The infestation is localized, but unmistakable.

Kai examines the infested leaf with the focused expression of someone diagnosing a problem. His old reflex is visible in his posture: identify the defect, then remove it. In the lower panel, his hand reaches toward a simple, unlabelled spray bottle resting beside the bed.
