Page 13. A wide closing panel, the same slightly high angle and framing as page 1. The clubroom is quiet again — same desk, boxes, corkboard, folding chair and square window, with the small white mini-fridge now firmly closed in the corner and the small puddle still on the floor. Momo lies fast asleep on the floorboards, hugging her recovered magnifying glass. Biscuit dozes in her open box, and Ganta sits on the stack of cardboard boxes with his pale-blue juice box, looking down at the sleeping detective and delivering the true verdict now that nobody is awake to argue. GANTA: 'You left it open.'
Image description
Wide closing view matching the opening: the chibi girl lies fast asleep on the clubroom floor hugging her magnifying glass, a small puddle beside her and the mini-fridge now closed in the corner. A chibi boy in a mint-green cat-ear hoodie sips his juice box on the boxes and looks down at her; a round white cat dozes in an open box.
About this chapter
A small puddle spreads across the Tiny Case Agency floorboards, and Momo is certain the agency is under siege by a rising flood — an intruder who crept in at dawn with dripping boots, water meaning to drown them out. She wrings out her own soaked coat hem as evidence, climbs to 'high ground' on the folding chair, and finally tracks the tide to its source in the corner. Ganta tells her on page five that the fridge is open. She hushes him, follows the drips herself, flings the mini-fridge door wide to confront the intruder — and a cold drip lands on her nose. Unable to admit she left it ajar, she shoves the door shut, declares the breach sealed and the tide turned, and falls asleep. Ganta delivers the verdict once she is out: she left it open.
